HURRICANE ALERT and INFORMATION!!
With the storm coming our way, here is a very important message from our fire chief here in Lovell. We want everyone to be safe. Please check on neighbors, elderly shut-ins etc. Please spread this message to those who may not get it from our Neighborhood Watch email list. Thanks so much, SEE MESSAGE BELOW Be safe Roxanne Craig
The fire department is fully prepared for the hurricane. We have an operational plan in place to provide safe, efficient, and effective emergency operations during the impact of the storm and then to mitigate all hazards left after the storm has passed. We shall respond during the storm to all that need our assistance, and then work to assist our community with a quick recovery to pre-storm conditions through the successful mitigation of hazards.
The fire department is prepared to open the station located on Hatch Hill Road and Main Street as the community shelter if needed. If at any time during the storm or after, if someone in the community is in need of any assistance and/or shelter please notify the fire department by calling Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and inform them of your needs. The Sheriff's Office will then contact the fire department, and we will respond.
Here, in our area can expect strong winds, heavy rain with flooding, and likely power outages. We asked that everyone secure all outdoor items that may take flight, remain indoors, and please remember never to touch a down power line or anything that may be in contact with a power line. Your personal safety is always number 1 priority.
I hope this helps out.
Tommie C. McKenzie, Chief

UPDATE ON CONDOR I & II:
Governor LePage's strong statement (HERE) against plans by the Air National Guard to use over 2.5 million acres over Western Maine (specifically over areas of Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, Piscataquis Counties, and part of Coos County in NH) for training pilots of F-15's in low-level flights. Originally limited to 7,000 ft. above ground and a relatively small area, training flights are proposed to be allowed down to 500 ft. above ground.

Note: The Warrant contains much more than the proposed articles listed below. Please read it carefully and plan to attend this important meeting!
PUBLISHED NOTICE OF SPECIAL TOWN MEETING: HERE
This Special Town Meeting is held to address proposed Ordinance changes, specifically:
- Article 2: Conditional Use Permit
- Article 3: Sign Requirements
- Article 4: Clarification of Planning Board Voting
- Article 5: Town Beaches and Town Landings
- Article 6: Solid Waste Management
Copies of all of these proposed changes may be found HERE, and at the Town Office.
COURTESY BOAT INSPECTION PROGRAM
The Courtesy Boat Inspection (CBI) effort is underway. Headed by Marty Prox, the CBI team will involve some paid summer staff as well as volunteers from the community. During May, inspectors will be on duty from Thursday thru Sunday, and during the summer we will have coverage for the entire week, from 6 am to 5 pm. There are Self-Inspection kiosks for times and places when a CBI person is not there.
BOATERS:
- Make sure you have your boat stickers on your boat. They may be purchased at the Town Office or at Lovell Bait & Tackle OR White Birch Guide Service. ($20 for boats registered out-of-state, $10 for boats registered in Maine). Money from the sticker program is split 60/40 between Maine Departments of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Inland Fish & Wildlife (IF&W), for funding for invasive aquatic plant prevention and for the Maine Warden Service.
- Check your boats, motors, trailers and equipment to make sure you're not transporting weeds. (There is a $250.00 fine for transporting aquatic plants...).
- You may be asked to take the prop off of your trolling motor. You can do it on site, or, better yet, take it off (and clean the shaft) before you arrive. KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!

ATTENTION
Lovell Tax Payers
One of the most detrimental issues now facing the Town of Lovell is the possibility of invasive aquatic plants being introduced into our lakes and ponds. If this should happen, it would adversely affect every property owner. One of the best ways to fight this battle is to inspect all watercraft entering our waters, utilizing the Courtesy Boat Inspection Program (CBI). This is a daunting task and the Lovell Invasive Plant Prevention Committee (LIPPC) needs your help. If you have any time from May-October to donate to this worthwhile cause, even a few hours a week, please contact the Lovell Town Office (207-925 6272) or go to the Town of Lovell website, www.lovellmaine.us. Click on ‘LIPPC’, then click on ‘Contact Us’. We are willing to train volunteers. This is a great way to meet new people and do an invaluable service to your community. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
The Lovell Invasive Plant Prevention Committee

Important: The Massachusetts Air National Guard is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) as part of the requirements for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This addresses their proposal to use more than 2.5 million acres over Western Maine for training pilots flying F-15's and F-16's. These fighter jets would fly as low as 500 feet above ground, up to 7,000 feet above sea level, and in another corridor, from 7,000 feet up to 18,000 feet above sea level. and practice high-to-low intercepts. The Maine Legislature (both House and Senate) has passed a Resolution opposing the expansion of Condor I & II; the entire Maine Congressional Delegation has written letters opposing this expansion, as well. It would have very deleterious effects on the Quality of Place, and on the economy of Western Maine. The official website for Condor I & II is http://www.maine.gov/mdot/angcondor/index.htm
Keep informed of developments at 'Western Maine Matters.'
