Submitted October 13, 2011, by Ben Bowker. Thanks so much, Ben (and mother Jennifer, who sent it on).

Memories of Summer at Kezar, written as a school assignment by the young grandson of a friend, Bernie Borman. I love particularly the line “I can see, I can hear, I can feel in my favorite place Kezar Lake.” Such memories will last a lifetime! Thank you, Ben, for sharing this! (AKW)

Kezar Lake

Kezar Lake is my favorite place to be. Here I can see the floating dock bobbing in the waves like people bobbing for apples, children lunging into the water trying to catch fish like a fencer lunges at his opponent, and people swimming like birds fly. I can her the waves making a quiet “splash” as they hit the shore, the ducks and ducklings quacking every so often and, the “VVRRRMMMM” of motor boats in the distance. I can feel the hot sun beating down on me, the refreshing water when I dive into it and, the sand in-between my toes as I sit on a beach towel. I can see, I can hear, I can feel in my favorite place Kezar Lake.

Linda Legere photographed this very rare partial albino nuthatch at her suet this winter. She submitted the photographs to Cornell Ornithology, and to the Audubon Society, who found them very interesting. These may be the only recorded sightings of this mutation. Thanks for sharing, Linda.
